AI Strategy is Not Business Strategy with AI Bolted On
March 11, 2026
Three months off LinkedIn. A lot has happened. I've been heads-down building, taking care of my family, and learning a lot - from networking fundamentals like TCP/IP protocols and OSI model layers, to Docker containerization and orchestration with Kubernetes.
And today I just completed DataCamp's AI Business Fundamentals skill track: 7 courses, 12 hours, covering Gen AI, LLMs, AI strategy, AI ethics, and hands-on PoC methodology. But here's the thing: it didn't just teach me to code. It taught me how to think about AI as a business weapon, and that gap is exactly where most implementations fail.
Here's some food for thought, and some of what I'm already applying:
- AI Strategy is not Business Strategy with AI bolted on. AI initiatives that don't tie back to clear business drivers are just very expensive experiments. The question isn't "Can we use AI here?" but "Does AI create measurable value here, and for whom?"
- MLOps isn't an afterthought, it must be a foundation. Model drift, retraining pipelines, experiment tracking, monitoring, and so on. Building with MLOps principles from the PoC stage saves enormous pain when you go to scale.
- Design a realistic PoC. Scope your PoC with the SMART framework before writing a single line of code, seriously. Vague objectives produce zombie projects that never ship, and scope creep will turn your timeline into a living hell.
- Culture eats AI strategy for breakfast. The biggest barrier to adoption isn't technology. Teams that experiment fast, fail cheap, and iterate relentlessly are the ones that actually ship. Psychological safety around experimentation isn't soft - it's a competitive advantage.
- Responsible AI must feel like a trust multiplier, not a legal checkbox. Fairness, explainability, and human-in-the-loop design are what turn skeptical stakeholders into AI champions, and what ultimately make AI trustworthy enough to deploy at scale.
I'm building SAT-MCP and DISAI-Conta, an AI-first fiscal CFDI automation platform for Mexican SMEs, and every one of these concepts is showing up in the work every single day. I'll share more updates on my progress soon.
If your business is trying to figure out where AI actually fits, or why your current initiatives aren't moving, let's talk. I'm ready to help scope, validate, and build.
